Covid blow for Millers
ROTHERHAM players were dispatched to their Roundwood training base yesterday for Covid tests in a bid to rescue their Christmas programme.
The Yorkshire club’s home match with Derby was called off less than 90 minutes before kick-off due to concerns about a possible outbreak among the squad.
One Millers’ player tested positive on Friday and when others displayed coronavirus symptoms yesterday it forced the postponement shortly after Derby arrived.
A Rotherham statement read: ‘Following conversations with the EFL and the subsequent medical advice provided by them and that of our own club doctors, the club have taken the decision to request a postponement to the fixture which has been approved by the EFL.’
It denied Derby caretaker boss Wayne Rooney the chance to extend his unbeaten run to seven matches. He wants the job full-time and said: ‘As a player, I was prepared to put myself forward and not hide behind other people.
‘It’s the same for this job. I want to go into management full-time and there will be no excuses if it doesn’t work out.’
