Showers flowing south-west across the country will become organised into lines, with the risk of some hail and thunder. Into the first half of next week, further low pressure areas will move over the UK from the west. A cold northerly wind will be in place for Christmas Eve, bringing wintry showers.

Scotland, North East, North West:

Showers throughout, especially for West Scotland and the North West. Wind SW gentle. Max 9C 48F.

Northern Ireland, Eire: Showers, mostly in the West, spreading to Northern Ireland later. Wind SW moderate. Max 10C 50F.

WEEK AHEAD

Plenty of rain tomorrow, but becoming dry later. Heavy showers in the South on Tuesday. Rain for England and Wales on Wednesday. Heavy rain in the South on Thursday morning, but staying dry in most places otherwise. Drizzle for Scotland on Christmas Day until afternoon. Rain for Scotland and the North on Saturday.
