Anti- vaxxers t arget frontline hospit al

- By Mark Hookham

A DOCTOR working on the front line against coronavirus has voiced his disgust after a large mob danced outside a major London hospital on New Year’s Eve shouting ‘Covid is a hoax’.

Senior house officer Matthew Lee had just finished a gruelling shift in the A&E department of St Thomas’ Hospital in Westminster. He posted the scenes on Twitter, adding: ‘I’m disgusted but mostly heartbroken. I wish people could see the amount of Covid-19 and death in hospitals, and the sacrifices that healthcare workers make. Their ignorance is hurting others.’

The scenes provoked an outcry from other NHS staff. ‘Despite how angry and despairing this makes us as NHS staff, if any single one of them needed our help (perhaps intubation and ventilation for example), we would do it in a heartbeat,’ wrote Sarah Hallett, a paediatric doctor.

Meanwhile, Good Morning Britain presenter and Mail on Sunday columnist Piers Morgan said: ‘This is so disgusting. These morons shame Britain.’

It came as Piers Corbyn, brother of former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, was arrested yesterday during an anti-lockdown demonstration in Central London.

A crowd of between 200 and 300 people gathered in Hyde Park in defiance of the Capital’s tier 4 restrictions. Officers from the Metropolitan Police moved in to break up the demonstration, arresting 17 people, including Mr Corbyn.

Police were called to 58 music events and parties in London on New Year’s Eve. A total of 217 people were issued fixed penalty fines, while five face possible £ 10,000 fines for organising large parties.
