Cat’s the real Deeley as she lures Peter Kay back into the spotlight

- By Chris Hastings ARTS CORRESPONDENT

SHE looks like the Cat who got the cream... and that’s no surprise, given that she’s just taken over one of the most sought-after slots on Radio 2.

Presenter Cat Deeley beamed with delight as she arrived at the station’s London HQ, Wogan House, yesterday, right, to cover the morning shift Graham Norton has just vacated.

The 44-year-old stepped into the role with an exclusive chat with her pal, Peter Kay, the comedian who has rarely been seen or heard in public since axing a planned sell-out tour in 2017, citing ‘unexpected family circumstances’. Fans took to social media to praise his return, which started with him greeting Cat as ‘Catherine’, and saying he was sick of people wishing him a Happy New Year. Kay reduced her to a fit of giggles when he said: ‘You know when you get overwhelmed by texts, and you reply with copy and paste...’

Kay also told how he had persuaded Deeley to take part in his 2008 send-up of reality shows, Britain’s Got The Pop Factor... He said: ‘I love music. I have a very eclectic taste. I rang you to give you the big sell. You were in LA.’

Deeley will take stand in until Norton’s permanent replacement, Claudia Winkleman, arrives next month.
