PICK OF THE DAY
Traces BBC1, Monday & Tuesday, 9pm
Die-hard crime fans may have a sense of déjà vu as this six-part series, which first aired on the Alibi channel last year, comes to the BBC. For the rest of us it’s a first chance to discover an intriguing drama thriller, based on an idea from best-selling author Val McDermid and written by actor Amelia Bullmore (Scott & Bailey).
The setting is a forensic laboratory in Dundee, where Professor Sarah Gordon (Laura Fraser) welcomes the newest member of her team, lab technician Emma Hedges (Molly Windsor, right). It’s an uncomfortable return to Emma’s home city – especially when she learns that the latest body they’ve unearthed is that of her mother, starting a new investigation into a long unsolved murder.
The cast includes John Gordon Sinclair and Line Of Duty star Martin Compston playing Emma’s love interest.
