Island’s moment of shame
I read with horror your article about the Guernsey police who defied the Nazis. They should be given a place of honour in the island’s history. I hope you will lead a campaign to see that this is done.

Your report gave a misleading impression about their trial. They were not advised by British authorities to plead guilty, as the local court officials, acting under constant supervision of Nazi occupiers, probably had no option but to convict the officers. However, it’s strange that they were not pardoned after the war.
