Referee did not fluff his lines

THERE was no questions over whether or not Egzijan Alioski had fouled Steven Bergwijn — just whether it was inside the penalty area.

Referee David Coote pointed to the spot so, as a penalty was awarded, VAR checked to make sure t here was no cl ear and obvious error. The challenge (left) was a foul and VAR Paul Tierney said it was on the line, and on the line means in the box.

No lines were presented on TV — the lines they use to illustrate offsides — but they can be. Tierney decided the offence was clearly on the line (top picture) and he was right.
