Are Women The Fitter Sex?

Channel 4, 10pm A young, fit couple, neither Anna Schuchman nor her husband Dani seemed to have much cause for concern when they both fell ill with the coronavirus in March. But while she quickly bounced back, he soon struggled to breathe and became so sick he required hospital treatment, as the couple explain to Dr Ronx Ikharia (right).

Theirs is just one example of the significant differences between the sexes when it comes to medical outcomes and treatment that Ikharia is exploring in this impassioned if occasionally unfocused documentary, skipping from Covid-19 to cancer, HIV and autism without really looking into each one in any depth.

The picture emerges of a medical establishment ignoring the need for different data on men and women, with campaigner Caroline Criado-Perez among those calling for a new approach.
