PICK OF THE DAY Landscape Artist Of The Year

Sky Arts, 8pm After thousands of aspiring artists applied to enter the competition, we now begin with the 36 hopefuls selected for a chance of a brush with greatness in this, the sixth season of the cultured reality show.

The challenge awaiting the contestants is to create an artwork – a painting, drawing or print – capturing vistas of natural or city scenery. Among the highlights to look forward to in this series are the historic grandeur of Winston Churchill’s home at Chartwell in Kent and the edgily urban sight of North London’s West Reservoir.

Joan Bakewell and Stephen Mangan (right) are the presenters offering observations and advice, while the contestants must nervously await the authoritative and sometimes harsh truths proffered by the judges: Kate Bryan, Kathleen Soriano and Tai-Shan Schierenberg.
