Mark Kermode’s Secrets Of Cinema: British Comedy
Monday, BBC4, 9pm
We’ve all learnt a thing or two from Mark Kermode’s wellresearched, presented and fascinating ing series. But after 11 episodes, surely he has run out of genres to cover? Not a bit of it. Kermode (above) argues that they win laughs by playing on such national preoccupations as rooting for the underdog, the class war and parodies of Hollywood blockbusters. To illustrate his point, the BBC’s premier film critic showcases clips from movies that have been hits across the globe as well as more obscure, homegrown productions.
