SUSANNA REID fears being left alone in her ‘empty nest’ when all three of her sons go off to university.

The Good Morning Britain anchor’s eldest son Sam, 18, went off to study last autumn and she reveals today how she is not yet ready for the others to follow. In an interview with You magazine, Ms Reid, who turned 50 last month, explains: ‘ It’s heart-wrenching, isn’t it?

‘Like all of them, he’s been at home a lot since starting university. We discussed whether he should defer for a year, but I thought, “He’s ready to go.” I did obviously cry when we dropped him off.’

Contemplating the departure of younger sons Finn, 16, and Jack, 15, she said: ‘The thing I found even more emotional was realising he’s on a string of three. He goes, the next one goes, then the next one. This is the start of three or four years with all my ducklings leaving, then there’s going to be an empty nest. I find that really hard.’

The 2013 Strictly finalist found herself at the centre of a row over her cleavage last week when she wore a low-cut dress. After viewers complained, Ms Re i d jokingly responded: ‘Shocker, women have boobs!’
