Children don’t need BBC’s ‘100 genders’ show

-

The BBC never ceases to amaze. It is unbelievable that the Corporation is influencing children as young as nine by saying there are more than 100 genders, as you reported last week. Let children be children. Let them enjoy each other’s company during their all-too-brief school years and grow up at their own pace.

Children of this age will not understand all this stuff being thrown at them, at a time in their lives when so much is changing. While I do understand the need to educate young people and to make them see that normal means different things to different people, to have this radical viewpoint thrust at them is, in my opinion, plain wrong.

Parents know their children best and they should be allowed to decide when and how much to teach them in an ageappropriate way.

I can’t see the problem with it. It’s just reflecting the world in which children are growing up and may help them further their understanding and empathy for their peers. Sure, it’s probably not the most vital thing for nine-yearolds to learn. But what’s the harm? Good on the BBC for making a concerted effort to educate our children at this very disruptive time. It’s just the sort of thing I pay my licence fee for.

My son has been taught this in school over the past year. The BBC is just covering the same curriculum as schools.

This is utterly inappropriate. The BBC is no longer fit for purpose.

O. Davies, York

Surely the issue should be teaching our children not to be prejudiced and intolerant about all sorts of subjects, rather than focusing on something which affects a tiny percentage of the population? As a teenager in the 1980s, lots of my male friends dressed flamboyantly, wore mascara and fussed over their hair (the New Romantics!). I didn’t need guidance in order to accept this and neither did they. We are in danger of interpreting adolescent development, depression and sexuality as gender confusion.

Is Ofcom ever going to do anything about the far-Left output from the BBC? Nobody is asking for this.

T. Lawson, London

The whole education system needs an overhaul to get back to basics.

So this is what is deemed important for kids to learn during lockdown? The BBC is again going down the woke route instead of focusing on the core aspects of reading, writing and arithmetic.
