Make the penalty fit the Covid crime

-

It would seem that the fines being handed out to people who are breaching lockdown regulations by organising unlawful house parties, weddings, pub gatherings and even baby showers are not working.

It is almost as if these people are factoring the fines into the cost of laying on such events.

So perhaps the powers-thatbe should consider an alternative threat to these irresponsible folk.

Make the punishment fit the crime.

Anyone caught breaching regulations should be made to serve a term of unpaid community service assisting cleaners on Covid wards and in hospital mortuaries, or made to dig the many graves that are needed to accommodate the unfortunate victims of this lethal virus. Perhaps then they will wake up and realise that their actions are costing lives and prolonging the very lockdowns that they seem only too willing to ignore.

All that’s required of them to be part of a community is responsibility and law abidance. Jan Rosser, Cropwell Bishop,
