Could this be the way to make one new SW19 super venue?

TURNING CHURCH ROAD INTO A PEDESTRIAN ZONE

THE most controversial plan is likely to be limiting Church Road to a pedestrian walkway between Bathgate Road and Somerset Road during the tournament. Church Road is the main thoroughfare between Wimbledon Village and Southfields and the plan is likely to upset some local residents. However, a pedestrian walkway would assist in social distancing spectators.

WIMBLEDON’S BIG EXPANSION

THE All England Club acquired the Wimbledon Park Golf Club in late 2018 for £64million as part of their plans for expansion. They intend building new courts on the land so that the qualifying tournament can be moved from Roehampton two miles away to onsite. The courts should be ready by 2024.

RESTRICTIONS ON THE GOLF COURSE

THE parkland in and around the golf course was designed by Capability Brown and is a Grade II listed park so developers will be limited in the changes they make.

INDOOR COURTS

WIMBLEDON has knocked down the indoor centre and replaced it with six indoor courts, six outdoor courts, offices and an underground car park, which should be completed by the summer.
