Ogbonna’s whiff of victory

- By James Sharpe

ANGELO OGBONNA believes you can ‘smell the change’ at West Ham under manager David Moyes.

West Ham host Liverpool today on the back of four Premier League wins and know that a win will lift them into the top four.

There has been a different kind of stench coming out of the Hammers in recent seasons with poor results, financial problems and frustrations between the fans and the owners, culminating in the side just avoiding relegation six months ago.

‘I think it’s the most important time since I came to West Ham,’ says Italian Ogbonna, now into his sixth season at West Ham.

‘There’s a real unity, a real togetherness. Since the manager came in everything changed. We are united, we try our best. You can smell that something has changed.’

Moyes has overseen a drastic change at West Ham from the side he inherited from Manuel Pellegrini about 12 months ago. The Hammers were slumped in 17th and in danger of going down.

‘ Everything comes from discipline,’ says Ogbonna. ‘ Whoever comes here, or whoever goes to Liverpool, they’re going to run. They’re going to run for Klopp... so why can’t they run for David Moyes? I think it comes from the discipline.

‘In a big club, wherever it is, you have to do your part and I think he has brought something. Maybe it can annoy someone but it is something I think that can help.’
