The activist who spouts Lenin and compiles walkout map of Britain
HENRY FOWLER, a senior activist at the National Education Union, has launched an online map that tracks every strike and industrial action held across the UK.
Mr Fowler co-founded Strike Map with teacher and fellow NEU activist Rob Poole to raise awareness ‘of the plight of striking workers’ and encourage others to walk out.
In a joint online article last month, the pair quoted Russian revolutionary Vladimir Lenin. ‘ The biggest danger to the ruling classes is that strikes raise class consciousness,’ they wrote. ‘As Lenin said, “Every strike reminds the workers that their position is not hopeless, that they are not alone.” ’
Mr Fowler, 30, from Haywards Heath, West Sussex, has been a national campaign manager at the NEU for three years.
He has a diploma in organising after a 20-day course for union officers held at Ruskin College, Oxford.
