being told we should ‘follow the data’ on easing lockdown, but it can’t be the only metric. Good old-fashioned common sense has a role to play too. For example, if the criteria for closing venues is the rate of infection, then on the basis that hospitality accounts for less than three per cent while contagion in hospitals is off the scale, surely we should close all the hospitals and open all the pubs?
