Devoted viewers of this popular detective show – now in its fourth series – will be expecting the queasy moment at the beginning of each storyline when a body untouched for many years is discovered.

This time around there’s a doozy of a kick-start for the investigation by DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) and DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker), both right. The corpse of a young male turns up in a scrapyard. The head and the hands have been removed, but there’s enough identifying detail from a football-club tattoo to work out who it was: a man who went missing in 1990. However, it seems the body was moved much more recently…

Meanwhile, the continuing storyline concerning Cassie’s father takes a heartbreaking turn as his dementia worsens – leaving her plans to retire in tatters.
