Chris Packham’s Animal Einsteins
Sunday, BBC2, 8pm
How does the he intelligence of the animal kingdom’s geniuses measure up against humans? Chris Packham (above) begins ns his new six-part series by investigating the crow family, setting a common raven a puzzle before pointing out why its cousin, the New Caledonian crow, should be declared a mastermind rather than a bird brain. It seems they are the only non-human species to make hooked tools in the wild, and that makes them smarter than a five-year-old child. Meanwhile, at Queen Mary University of London, Samadi Galpayage shows how a bee can add up in a similar way to how humans count on their fingers.
