ZAPPA NEW DOCUMENTARY Tribute to the jazz rock legend
The life and times of one of music’s genuine eccentrics. Frank Zappa’s avantgarde, satirical jazz rock had a select but devoted following that included The Beatles. Zappa (right, in 1970 with his parents Francis and Rose Marie) seems to have been bemused by his one accidental hit, Valley Girl. He became a figurehead in the fight against censorship in the arts. This film, featuring contributions from Zappa’s widow Gail and various collaborators, was clearly a labour of love for director Alex Winter, of Bill & Ted fame. altitude.film, available now
