JOSS LABADIE scored the only goal as play-off chasing Newport thwarted Michael Duff’s Cheltenham’s bid to clinch the title. However, the manager has pledged they won’t miss fire a second time. ‘We had two chances to win the league and we’ve failed in one of them,’ he said. ‘There will be no excuses next week.’

County boss Michael Flynn added: ‘I thought it was an excellent performanc­e and we got a great start with a great strike from Joss Labadie.’

JOSH BOHUI’S first-ever league goal helped Colchester beat nine-man Salford. United’s interim head coach Hayden Mullins said: ‘It’s tough playing under pressure.’ Di’Shon Bernard and Ash Hunter saw red for Gary Bowyer’s visitors.

MATT GREEN’S goal was enough to end Port Vale’s nine-game unbeaten run. The visitors’ manager Darrell Clarke said: ‘We didn’t take our chances. It’s a very, very frustratin­g afternoon for us. But I’m not going to be too critical of my players.’
