Didn’t you get the memo, Monsieur Macron? You’re not supposed to shake hands!
THERE was amour of the same from Emmanuel Macron yesterday as the French President continued his pursuit of Joe Biden.
Despite Covid restrictions, Mr Macron shook Mr Biden’s hand and placed his palm on the US President’s wrist before telling Mr Biden: ‘What you demonstrate is that leadership is partnership. I think it’s great to have the US President part of the club, and very willing to cooperate.’
When reporters asked the US President if ‘America is back’, Mr Biden pointed to Macron and said: ‘Ask him.’ The French President nodded enthusiastically and replied: ‘Definitely.’ ‘The sun is shining, we’re on this beach, I’m well,’ said Mr Biden. ‘And I’m with the president of France, that makes me feel even better. Things are going, I think, well and we’re – as we say back in the States – we’re on the same page.’
Mr Macron’s continued charm offensive came after he delayed leaving Friday’s photocall with other world leaders to buttonhole Mr Biden.
