Bred in Ireland, this grows up to 2½ft tall and displays its white blooms against a foil of green and yellow variegated leaves.

2 ‘ SUNSET’

A low-growing shrub with wavy, grey-green leaves and cerise-pink blooms that are slightly crinkled towards the edges.

3 C. LADANIFER

Forming a 5ft-tall bush, this produces 4in-wide white flowers, above, with yellow centres, and a purple blotch at the base of each petal.

4 C. X PURPUREUS

An absolute cracker that will turn heads with a succession of 3in-wide dark pink flowers decorated with maroon splashes.

5 C. X PURPUREUS ‘ALAN FRADD’

A dense, rounded shrub up to 3ft tall, it carries masses of large white flowers adorned with chocolate-red splotches.
