Carrie’s dress sense

Alexandra Shulman claimed in last week’s Mail on Sunday that she’d never worn a rented dress, as Carrie Johnson did on her wedding day. Why on earth not? I got married in 1971 and hired a wedding dress for £45. It was Swiss lace and absolutely beautiful. I could never have afforded to buy it.

It was returned to be hired by others – not put in a box in the attic, never to see daylight again. Lyn Windebank,
