There have been many comparisons between the current British Government and this un-PC 1980s comedy, but even the boldest parliamentarian doesn’t come close to matching Rik Mayall’s ultra hard-line Alan B’Stard (left). Created by Maurice Gran and Laurence Marks, the show chronicles the efforts of the MP as he does whatever it takes to further his career. As well as offering a satirical look at the government of the time, it also showcased Mayall’s considerable comic – and dramatic – talents.
