Grim day for Oldham as fans stage protest against owners

-

HUNDREDS of fans demonstrated outside Boundary Park before Oldham’s goalless draw with Hartlepool in League Two in a protest against owner Abdallah Lemsagam.

More than 500 supporters carrying banners set off flares and called for the Dubai-based Moroccan agent to sell the club.

A coffin carried by fans — some dressed as clowns, another as the Grim Reaper — was placed in front of the main entrance with a plaque bearing the club crest and the letters RIP OAFC.

The owner and his brother, sporting director Mohamed, were not at the game to see a plane circle the stadium trailing a banner that read: ‘Al & Mo Time To Go #saveoafc.’

Oldham are bottom of the table and in danger of dropping out of the Football League altogether after losing six of their opening eight games.

The club have gone through nine managers since Lemsagam took over three-and-a-half years ago and are currently working under a transfer embargo.

Steve Shipman, spokesman for fans’ group Push the Boundary, said: ‘This is a Football League club, we know there are people out there that want to buy it.’
