I’m A Celebrity is blown off air as winds wreck part of the set
BOSSES on TV show I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! cancelled this weekend’s two live shows after part of the set was destroyed by Storm Arwen.
ITV called off the broadcasts after the tent used by production staff at Gwrych Castle in North Wales was deemed unsafe due to damage caused by the fierce winds. It is the first time a show on the series has had to be axed since it began in 2002.
A spokesperson said yesterday: ‘Owing to technical difficulties caused by extreme weather conditions in the area, there will be no new episodes of I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! this weekend, Saturday and Sunday.’
Last night, the 11 celebrities were removed from the castle and put back into the Covid-secure accommodation where they quarantined for a fortnight before the show began.
They have all been separated and bosses hope that by doing that, they can get the production set repaired faster, so that the programme will return to screens quicker.
The decision by programme chiefs to cancel the episodes is the latest blow to the series. Friday night’s show had to be prerecorded by presenters Ant and Dec due to safety concerns prompted by the oncoming storm.
Earlier, one of the most high-profile contestants, Richard Madeley, had to bow out after he was rushed to hospital. Although he was given a clean bill of health, the 65-year-old was not allowed to return to the camp because he had left the Covid bubble.
There were reports that Arlene Phillips and rapper Naughty Boy might have to quit for medical reasons, but ITV bosses said they had no such concerns.
