Woman is held after child death

A WOMAN has been detained after the death of a child on New Year’s Eve.

Greater Manchester Police said officers were called by the ambulance service at about 6.20pm to an incident at a house in the Limeside area of Oldham.

The force said ‘a child was sadly pronounced dead at the scene’, an investigation had been launched and a woman in her 30s detained under the Mental Health Act.

Detective Superintendent Chris Packer said: ‘Our thoughts are with the child’s loved ones at this heartbreaking time.’ He added: ‘Due to previous police contact, this incident has been referred to our Professional Standards Branch.’
