Toast Of Tinseltown
BBC2, 10pm
He’s been resting, love. Yes, it’s been seven years since we last saw that behemoth of the boards and sultan of the screen Steven Toast (Bafta-winning Matt Berry, far right with Kayvan Novak). But now, still denied the adulation he’s convinced he deserves, the self-regarding thespian has gone all Hollywood (as well as making the switch to BBC2 from Channel 4).
Once more co-written with Father Ted creator Arthur Mathews, Berry’s brilliant and surreal satire of the acting world is a delight for fans. Look out for the return of some wonderfully named characters, including Toast’s pompous rival Ray Purchase (Harry Peacock), and the achingly hip recording studio technocrat Clem Fandango (Shazad Latif).
This is a showcase for Berry’s bravura comedy, and that foghorn baritone, which wouldn’t disgrace a lighthouse. )))))
