Cultural historian Nandini Das (right) explores the power of empathy to shape political worlds. She is joined by author and academic researcher Claire Yorke as they focus on the Shanghai Communiqué – the 1972 accord between China and the USA – which was essentially based on both sides agreeing to disagree. Leicester singer-songwriter and guitarist Grace Petrie is the guest on tonight’s The Folk Show With Mark Radcliffe (Radio 2, 9pm). Radio 3 In Concert (Radio 3, 7.30pm) features a performance by Daniel Barenboim and his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in Salzburg in August.
