The Apprentice

-

BBC1, 9pm

‘In this boardroom you don’t get furloughed – you get fired.’ Yes, though the one-liners may have been adapted for the age of Covid, almost everything else is back to normal as The Apprentice – off our screens since 2019 due to the pandemic – returns for its 16th series with contestants once again vying for the approval of Lord Sugar.

There is one major change: it’s farewell to Claude Littner and welcome to Tim Campbell – the first-ever winner, far right – joining Karren Brady (near right) to sit alongside Sugar (centre) in the boardroom.

For the16 hopefuls jostling to make their mark, the task for the opening episode is to come up with a marketing campaign for a new cruise liner. It may be a particularly testing challenge amid all the anxiety over travel, but this is a chance for someone to make an immediate splash – or they could end up all at sea.
