MacGinty’s Sale mean business

- AT AJ BELL STADIUM

AJ MacGINTY claimed Sharks aim to be ‘a mean bunch’ and start climbing the Premiership table as they began the year with a win.

A bonus point win came courtesy of three first-half tries from JeanLuc du Preez, Marland Yarde and Rohan Janse van Rensburg while Ben Curry added an early secondhalf score.

Fly-half MacGinty said: ‘We wanted to start 2022 with a good, strong win. We’re very happy with this win because we’ve not played much rugby over the last two months and this week we’ve had Covid cases.

‘We want to be a mean bunch and be hard to play against. We could have had another 14 points on the board here at least.’

Sharks boss Alex Sanderson said: ‘We looked very sharp and it’s a good start to the new year for us. It’s about getting some rhythm and getting some games under our belt because the lads have been on and off the field due to falling ill with Covid.’

Josh Bassett had crossed early for Wasps to give them the lead but they had to wait until the end for their second try from Jimmy Gopperth and it was just a consolation for the visitors. zBATH’S match at London Irish tomorrow has been cancelled after an outbreak of Covid at the West Country club.
