The jail breaks that are down to obesity…

-

WOMEN prisoners are piling on so much weight that they keep breaking toilet seats.

A source said it was ‘difficult’ to keep up with the numbers being wrecked at HMP Downview in London, adding: ‘Some of them only last a week or two before they start cracking.’

Officials are said to be ‘concerned about high levels of obesity’ among the 210 inmates, who are locked up for around 22 hours a day and allowed only 30 minutes for exercise.

The prison is creating a health strategy with the NHS to tackle the problem ‘holistically’. The Prison Service said: ‘Offenders are provided with healthy meals and opportunity to exercise.’
