British Gas ‘sorry’ over boiler fiasco

-

BRITISH GAS has been forced to apologise to hundreds of thousands of customers for failing to repair broken boilers this winter.

With the cost of energy spiralling and some people forced to choose between heating and other essentials, the energy giant has been criticised for its customer service as staff work from home.

Britain’s biggest energy supplier, which heats and powers about 12million homes, has promised to make improvements after customers were left without heating and hot water ahead of heavy snow and temperatures as low as minus 6C (21F) in some parts of the country this weekend.

It comes after an announcement last week that average energy bills will rise by £700 in April, a record increase of more than 50 per cent, amid a spiralling cost-of-living crisis and rising inflation.

British Gas has been warned about its service by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Last night a British Gas spokesman said: ‘We’ve identified where the issues are and we are taking the right steps to fix them. Our customers are the most important thing. We are sorry, and trust us that we’ll improve.’
