CHILDREN grow more quickly in the summer – as any teacher facing her class each September could confirm.

According to scientists at the University of South Florida, children under the age of 14 grow noticeably quicker when there are more hours of daylight.

Typically, children grow in short spurts, but these happen more often during the summer when they can shoot up as much as 4in in a matter of weeks.

Experts are unsure why, but one theory is that exposure to sunlight triggers the release of growth hormones.
