Get a whiff of garlic – from your feet
GARLIC-lovers can get a hit of the pungent veg through the soles of their feet.
The bulbs contain allicin – a compound that gives garlic its smell – which is small enough to penetrate the skin.
And studies have shown that if you rub garlic on your feet, it travels the length of the body through the bloodstream and, after about 30 minutes, will reach the taste buds.
Allicin is also the reason that people smell of garlic long after they’ve eaten it.
When it passes into the bloodstream, it is then released out through the skin, giving off the distinctive strong odour.
