WALSALL caretaker boss Neil McDonald admitted they were relieved to ‘stop the rot’ after a narrow victory over Tranmere. Conor Wilkinson’s late penalty

settled what was a drab affair.

PORT VALE manager Darrell Clarke issued an apology to his side’s fans after their goalless draw at home to Northampto­n. ‘It was an awful performanc­e from us,’ he said. Northampto­n boss Jon Brady added: ‘Overall, it’s a good point.’

EXETER manager Matt Taylor praised the ‘poacher’s finish’ from Kieran Phillips after the on-loan striker netted the only goal at Bradford. ‘He knew where the goal was without looking,’ Taylor said.

JOEY BARTON insisted his Rovers side were denied ‘a stonewall penalty’ against Mansfield. John-Joe O’Toole’s tackle on Aaron Collins provided the only major talking point and Barton said: ‘It is

difficult to keep the emotion in.’

RYAN HAYNES, Dom Telford and Mickey Demetriou earned a point for Newport. Davis Keillor-Dunn and Mike Fondop (two) netted for Oldham, who had Dylan Bahamboula sent off.

JOSH DAVISON scored twice for Swindon after Harry McKirdy’s opener to beat Scunthorpe. Head coach Ben Garner lavished praise on the two-goal hero. ‘I am delighted for JD to get his two goals. He was immense,’ said Garner.

ROCHDALE 3 HARROGATE 3

MAX CLARK, Abraham Odoh and Tavlon Campbell earned a point for relegation-threatened Rochdale. Alex Pattison scored two, including a penalty, and Jack Diamond one for Harrogate.

COLCHESTER interim boss Wayne Brown said his side ‘should have been out of sight in the first half’. Tommy Smith and Tyreik Wright scored for Colchester, with Omari Patrick and Tobi Sho-Silva’s earning a point for Keith Millen’s Carlisle.

GARY BOWYER was thrilled by his Salford side’s second-half performanc­e. Goals by Liam Shephard and Theo Vassell earned the victory and Bowyer said: ‘I was really impressed.’

BARROW overcame striker Aaron Amadi-Holloway’s red card to secure a goalless draw in their delayed clash with Stevenage. The on-loan Burton man was dismissed for a foul on Chris Lines before Stevenage’s Luke Prosser was also sent off.

OMAR BOGLE was the match-winner for Hartlepool but Crawley head coach John Yems had no doubt the striker should have also been sent off for

a ‘blatant foul’ on Jack Payne.
