DE GEA LAMBASTED OVER LEVELLER

-

DAVID DE GEA was severely criticised for trying to save Che Adams’s equaliser with his feet. ‘What De Gea’s doing going with his feet for in those circumstances I do not know,’ Glenn Hoddle said. ‘He makes a lot of good saves with his feet from reactions in the six-yard box or if it’s a corner. But what on earth he’s going with his feet for from that angle I do not understand.

‘If he lays his legs down on the near post and goes across he saves it. I did think at the time, “What a good finish. How did he get that round him?” But second time I saw it I thought, “That’s the reason why.”’

Hoddle’s BT Sport colleague Paul Scholes said: ‘I agree, it felt like a funny angle to score from, and I didn’t expect the keeper to be going with his legs. It’s a simple one to the side. He can probably catch it there or tip it round the post. Much more chance of saving it with his arms rather than his legs.’
