Our hearts break for Ukraine’s refugees

- Stasha Martin, West Sussex

The Ukrainians are bravely defending their country for which they are prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice and, with help from the West by provisions and sanctions against Russia, they are putting up quite a fight.

The whole world is against this war. Ordinary Russian people seem horrified and I wonder if their soldiers understand why they are invading their neighbours.

So much needless bloodshed, death and devastation at the behest of one man, a dictator. As your headline last week stated, the plight of Ukraine’s refugees has touched our hearts. Our hearts break for all those innocent victims fleeing the war zone and I commend your humanitarian appeal.

It is so hard to believe this is happening in the 21st Century. Such conflicts surely occurred only in history. Haven’t we a big enough battle fighting issues such as climate change together? We can only hope Putin will see the error of his ways and back off. He must not win. Otherwise, what hope is there for our future?
