Diana mine charity’s help
FAMILIES in Ukraine are being taught how to spot landmines and booby-trap bombs laid by Putin’s invaders, thanks to the generosity of Mail readers.
Experts at the The Halo Trust – which in 1997 famously cleared an Angolan minefield for Princess Diana, left, to walk through – want to make safe key routes for refugees. Lana Artemenko, a risk education coordinator, said: ‘We’ll be clearing explosives in Ukraine for a long time. The work starts with teaching people how they can stay safe. With a lot of munitions, you can’t tell just from looking at them.’
Unexploded cluster bombs are a ‘major danger’, she added. ‘We’re very worried about children picking them up.’
