Derry Girls
Channel 4, 9.15pm
Take a trip back to the 1990s in Northern Ireland for the third and final series of the raucous and brilliantly observed comedy from writer Lisa McGee.
While there’s increasing hope for a peace deal that might at last bring an end to the Troubles, for the girls there are far more immediate issues to deal with – namely the battles of their teenage social life and the unavoidable matters of school, where headmistress Sister Michael (Siobhán McSweeney) reigns fearsomely supreme.
As we rejoin (left to right) Aunt Sarah (Kathy Keira Clarke), Orla (Louisa Harland), Ma Mary (Tara Lynne O’Neill) and Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson) for the first of six episodes, the girls are awaiting their GCSE results and fearing the worst. Plus, there’s increasing mayhem with a new addition to Erin’s family. Make the most of these girls – we’ll miss them.
