This new staging of Poulenc’s opera – based on Jean Cocteau’s 1928 one-woman play – stars Australian soprano Danielle de Niese as Elle, a woman grappling with love, loss and despair during a phone call one afternoon with her departing lover, Monsieur. Recorded at the Royal Opera House, the film examines the themes of isolation and separation, and explores the impact of technology on relationships.
