The 1996 programme revealed the impact of the Spice Girls. Girl Power is still in evidence in 1997, although it wasn’t just Ginger et al who were doing well – Sharleen Spiteri (below) and Texas had a resurgence, while All Saints and others were big news too. Expect lots of discussion from those who were there at the time, and there’s a chance to hear the songs they’re talking about in TOTP: Biggest Hits 1997 (9.30pm).
