UPS & DOWNS

PREMIER LEAGUE

Norwich’s one year in the Premier League ended yesterday, and Watford, who followed Norwich up last season, are also on the brink. That leaves Everton, Leeds and Burnley scrapping it out to avoid the third relegation place.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Fulham are up with either Bournemouth or Nottingham Forest to join them — and they meet in a colossal encounter on Tuesday night. One of those two, plus Huddersfield, will be in the playoffs alongside Luton and Sheffield United — but if either of those two slip up then Middlesbrough or Millwall are poised to pounce.

LEAGUE ONE

It was a dramatic final day, with Wigan clinching the title and Rotherham second place. Rotherham’s 2-0 win at Gillingham also condemned the Gills to relegation. In the playoffs, MK Dons will take on Wycombe in oneP semi-final,

Premiership old boys Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday meet in the other.

LEAGUE TWO

The promotion fight in League Two is going down to the wire, with Northampton currently in pole position to follow Exeter and Forest Green up. However, Port Vale play Newport today and Mansfield go to Swindon and either (or both) of Vale and Mansfield can leapfrog Northampton with wins. Bristol Rovers are guaranteed a play-off place, while Sutton, in eighth, and Tranmere, in ninth, can step in if there are any slips from those above.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Two straight defeats have got leaders Stockport sweating going into their last four games, with Wrexham breathing down their necks. Even Halifax can still believe, though they are guaranteed at least a play-off place, with Solihull pretty much certainties, too. Notts County, Grimsby and Chesterfield ought to complete the play-off picture, the three of them four points clear of Dagenham.
