Will Young: Losing My Twin Rupert

While Will Young has at least outwardly enjoyed all the trappings of wealth and fame as a pop star, his twin brother Rupert (far right with Will) sadly lived a very different life, one that ended when he died, committing suicide, aged 41, in 2020.

It was only the final chapter of Rupert’s decades-long struggle with alcohol and mental health problems. Now Will sets out to try to understand the suffering of addicts and share his own experiences in this often gut-wrenchingly emotional film.

Meeting members of his family, he discusses Rupert’s plight and the sense of helplessness and grief that consumes them. He also talks to addiction experts, who highlight how little help there is from public services, while a podcaster who’s a recovering addict bares her soul about her past and takes Will to the rehab centre where she began to recover. ★★★★☆
