The Jubilee Pudding: 70 Years In The Baking

Even once in a lifetime doesn’t adequately describe what’s at stake as five bakers vie to pass muster with Dame Marry Berry (right) and her panel of judges.

The prize is nothing less than baking immortality: for the winner will have their creation selected to be the Platinum Pudding served up at the Big Jubilee Lunch in June, as the whole country celebrates the Queen’s landmark 70 years on the throne.

In a way, the five finalists – Kathryn, Jemma, Sam, Shabnam and Susan – can already count themselves winners of a sort, having been selected from almost 5,000 applicants. But now the pressure is on as they try to perfect their creations and get the decisive thumbs-up from the panel and the winner is announced by the Duchess of Cornwall. ★★★★★
