A new run of the series about music with the power to inspire an emotional response begins with Purple Rain by Prince (right).

Among those revealing what the song means to them are comedian Sindhu Vee, historian Zaheer Ali and weather presenter Judith Ralston, who offers an unusual take on the title.

Inside Music (Radio 3, 1pm) features works chosen by Julian Lloyd Webber. The cellist also reveals how his father helped him and his brother Andrew dissect a chord in a Beach Boys song.

In Sound Of Cinema (Radio 3, 3pm), Matthew Sweet talks to composer Lesley Barber about her work on films including Mansfield Park.
