The boyos in blue, it’s Wills and his mini-me

- By Scarlet Howes and Kate Mansey

HIS father is used to the limelight, but Prince George could have been forgiven for feeling a little overwhelmed yesterday at a major jubilee event in Cardiff.

Perhaps he found it a comfort to dress almost identically to William in an opennecked shirt and navy jacket and trousers. However, George and his sister Charlotte proved to be naturals as working Royals – albeit very young ones.

William and Kate’s eldest children were the stars of the show during a visit to Cardiff Castle to see preparations for last night’s Platinum Jubilee Concert. George, eight, had a go on a sound-mixing desk, while Charlotte, seven, conducted an orchestra playing the hit song We Don’t Talk About Bruno from the film Encanto. In fact, music seems to be a big part of their lives, with Kate revealing that he is learning the electric guitar and Charlotte has taken up the piano.

Their brother Louis, four, was let off public duties, having been centre of attention during the Trooping the Colour and flypast at Buckingham Palace on Thursday. The Duchess of Cambridge told a wellwisher: ‘Louis was dying to be here but I thought it was too much for him.’

Pointing to Charlotte and George, she added: ‘It’s very daunting for them, but I wanted them to see what Mummy and Daddy do.’ Mindful of Louis’s playful antics – covering his ears theatrically as the Red Arrows roared overhead – Prince William joked that had he joined them, he might have done ‘anything’.

Anna Jones, 53, and Sandra Harris, 74, asked the children about their carriage ride through London on Thursday and Charlotte’s efforts to control Louis, joking to George: ‘Is she bossy?’ Smiling, the Duchess told him: ‘At least you didn’t say it was Mummy who was bossy!’

An assured Charlotte complimented Siobhan Lewis, 37, who has cerebral palsy, on her ‘bright, sparkly shoes’. Siobhan’s mother, Tracey, said: ‘She was so excited to tell William that she met Princess Diana in 1990. It was quite a poignant moment for both of them. You could see he was touched.’

George was startled by a screech of feedback when he tried his hand on the mixing desk, with William joking: ‘We’ll go before we break anything!’
