One’s one! Queen leads the birthday cheers for Lilibet

- By Kate Mansey

THE QUEEN led senior members of the Royal Family in wishing a happy birthday to Lilibet, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s daughter, who turned one yesterday.

As Harry and Meghan spent the day celebrating privately in Windsor, greetings were also tweeted by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, as well as Lilibet’s aunt and uncle, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The Queen posted a red balloon emoji on her official Royal Family Twitter account, alongside the message: ‘Wishing Lilibet a very Happy 1st Birthday!’

Last week was the first opportunity for the Queen to meet her great-granddaughter when the Sussexes, including son Archie, arrived in London to join the Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana MountbattenWindsor, who was born in Santa Barbara, California, was named in honour of the Queen, whose family nickname has been ‘Lilibet’ since

The Sussexes, as non-working members of the Royal Family, were not invited onto the balcony at Buckingham Palace with the Queen for the Trooping the Colour parade on Thursday.

Meghan and Harry, who are staying at their Windsor home of Frogmore Cottage, instead watched from the Major General’s Office at Horse Guards Parade.

They then joined the Royal Family on Friday for a thanksgiving service to the Queen at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is thought that they were invited to the following reception at the Guildhall but declined.

Neither Lilibet nor her three-yearold brother Archie have been seen in public since the Sussexes flew into Britain for the Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

Along with the Royal well-wishers, Meghan’s hairdresser George Northwood also took to social media and posted pictures on Instagram of the Duke and Duchess.

In a gushing caption, he wrote: ‘So nostalgic and wonderful to be reunited [with] Harry, Meghan and their family in the UK. Archie has grown to be the cutest, well mannered little boy and Lilibet is just beautiful.’
