FROM ‘flying saucer’ hats to zingy bright colours and on-trend pretty pastels, the fashions on display at the Jubilee celebrations have proved a feast for style-watchers.

The Duchess of Cambridge took centre stage in a £3,000 primrose yellow Emilia Wickstead dress with matching Philip Treacy ‘saucer’ hat at Friday’s service of thanksgiving. But those royals less often in the spotlight rose to the fashion challenge, too, with many opting for soft blushes and muted ivories.

Princess Margaret’s daughter Lady Sarah Chatto looked polished in an ivory silk suit with wide-brimmed hat, as did the Duchess of Wessex in a £2,590 glittering champagne Alessia dress from Suzannah London with stylish bell-shaped sleeves and back bow, below right. Her outfit complemented her daughter Lady Louise Windsor, who wore a silk Delphine gown from Ghost London topped with a shimmering headband.

Lady Helen Taylor continued the ‘soft’ trend in a cream Dior jacket with Russell & Bromley Fairytale slingbacks while Lady Gabriella Kingston, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, chose a peach ensemble in a bespoke 1950s-style midi-dress by Claire Mischevani.

Some of the more daring royals went for vivid brights with Sophie Winkleman, the actress wife of Lord Frederick Windsor, standing out in a £775 bold fuchsia Ahana dress from Beulah.

The same dress – in cornflower blue – was worn by Princess Beatrice, whose sister Princess Eugenie opted for a vibrant tangerine-coloured high-necked Amilia dress by Emilia Wickstead, available for £1,500.

Beatrice added a cheeky personal touch to her outfit with a £425 Perspex bag from Sophia Webster that read ‘Wifey for Lifey’ as she walked alongside husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Zara Tindall chose a £3,000 bright fuchsia Laura Green dress, leading her former rugby star husband Mike to quip she looked like a Starbust sweet (or

Opal Fruit for those old enough...) Style did not need to be expensive. Lady Rose Gilman, daughter of the Duke of Gloucester, chose a £295 Montague dress from High Street store LK Bennett while lady Davina Windsor wore a £99 Somerset floral shirt dress by Alice Temperley. Meanwhile, widebrimmed flying saucer hats appear to have overtaken fascinators as the headgear of choice. The Duchess of Sussex stunned in a swooping cream Stephen Jones hat while the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne and Prime Minister’s wife Carrie Johnson all chose sweeping brims.

One observer said: ‘Big hats are in, but you have to wonder how crowdfriendly they are. If you were at the back of the service your view was probably obstructed by millinery.’

While most Royals opted for pareddown make-up, Meghan vamped up the Hollywood glamour with dramatic kohlrimmed eyes and fake lashes.
